Halloween, also known as Samhain, All Hallow’s Eve, 0 Summer’s End, Witches Night, Snap-Apple and Lamswool, is celebrated as a holiday in night on October Halloween 2021 31 every year. The festival originally came from Ireland and is celebrated in a limited number of states. Halloween day is observed in Ireland, Canada, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Japan, Australia, Sweden and some other parts of the world. There are a number of ways and activities in which Halloween is celebrated. Some of the charms of this night are trick-or-treating, bonfires, ghost tours, costume parties, tours to haunted houses, reading and watching scary movies and carvings on pumpkins (Jack-o’-lanterns).
The celebration of Halloween is based on mythologies. It was believed in Celts that the Lord of Death, Saman, called the souls who have died a year ago on October 31 and ordered them to travel into the afterlife. Celts was a clan that settles in United Kingdom, France, Ireland and other parts of Europe some 2000 years ago. Hence the myth of Halloween is 2000 years old.
There is not the Celts’ old myth but also a number of modern superstitions mixed with the ancient believe. No one knows why but black cats are still a sign of bad luck. It is also believed that a girl who keeps a silver sixpence and a rosemary herb under her pillow on Halloween night is likely to see her future husband in dream. It is also advised that one must not turn back to see who is following him or her because dead people are at your back. If you return it will either kill you on the spot or after some time. It is also said that an unmarried girl who takes a broken egg in a glass and carries it to spring of water, she will be bestowed with the reflection of her husband. Moreover, if she manages to mix some spring water in the glass then she will be able to have glimpses of her children in future. It is also believed that spirits come and gather on the dinner table in case everyone is sitting silently. So it is encouraged that people keep on speaking during dinner on Halloween night.
Today the Halloween is not limited to the place from where it began. It is gaining momentum as a striking fashion, especially the costumes.
